Huon Aquaculture is currently seeking applications from candidates with a genuine interest in developing their career in the aquaculture industry. This position will play a significant role in the early stages of fish farming and will support Huon Aquaculture’s mission of producing the world’s most loved salmon.
The Hatchery Technician role reports directly to the Leading Hand on shift at our Meadowbank Hatchery, near New Norfolk. You will be part of a small hands on team. Some of the key activities of the position include cleaning, feeding, flushing, grading, pumping, routine quality system monitoring, night shift alarms, water testing and general support to all team members.
We are looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated candidates who possess a positive attitude. Ideally you will have a combination of some practical fish husbandry experience and a qualification in Aquaculture or related field. You will possess a strong work ethic, attention to detail, well-developed communication skills, physical fitness and a current driver’s licence.
A basic understanding of fish biology, water chemistry, and record keeping is desirable but not essential. The ability to work effectively autonomously and within a small team is essential.
This position operates on a 7 days on, 7 days off roster. You may be required to cover overnight shifts (including weekends) as required to monitor and respond to site alarm systems.
It is an inherent requirement of this position that work be performed safely whilst upholding Huon’s Values. The appointed person must be able to build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders. Knowledge of work health and safety regulations is preferred.
