A fulltime opportunity for a Cargo Engineer to oversee the maintenance and repair of ship equipment, working a 7 day on, 7 day off roster at Port Huon.

The role

The Cargo Engineer assists with certifying the maintenance and repair of all technical equipment related to ship operations, including engines, pumps, and electrical systems. Key responsibilities include:

• Providing maintenance and servicing in line with the planned maintenance management system, ensuring all required documentation is completed.
• Ensuring the hull, deck equipment, navigation/communication instruments, and machinery remain in safe, operational condition, with critical spares and stock maintained to meet compliance.
• Providing clear, timely decisions and recommendations to the Engineer, Master, and Management, balancing environmental risks and operational safety.
• Applying specialist technical expertise to support the Engineer/Master in developing and implementing preventative maintenance schedules, while coordinating repairs, maintenance, and vessel slippage requirements with shore management.
• Monitoring and reviewing the Safety Management System, identifying deficiencies and proposing solutions to the Engineer/Master for the Huon Supply and Southern Condor vessels.
• Mentoring and guiding deckhands, offering coaching and development opportunities to ensure competency and efficiency on both feed delivery vessels

About you

• Trade qualifications in mechanical, electrical or hydraulic operations and/or MED 2 is preferable.
• A current and valid Forklift licence.
• Proven experience in maintaining machinery to a high standard and strong attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to build meaningful relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Proficiency in maintenance scheduling software and sound knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
