Huon is seeking a Marine Environment Technical Officer to join our Corporate Governance Team and help us achieve our environmental objectives. This full-time role involves a mix of onshore and offshore work, including marine fieldwork aboard workboats and operating advanced underwater technologies.

The Role

As the Marine Environment Technical Officer, you’ll play a key role in:

  • Conducting field and laboratory-based environmental assessments on Huon’s marine leases and farming regions
  • Planning and executing benthic and water quality surveys for regulators such as EPA and NRE
  • Operating and maintaining Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) for underwater inspections and benthic surveys
  • Analysing environmental data and preparing clear, accessible reports for internal stakeholders
  • Investigating environmental incidents and supporting marine operations with monitoring issues such as algae blooms and jellyfish
  • Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental obligations during all on-water activities

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Aquaculture, Marine, or Environmental Science (desirable)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly
  • Proven ability to build and manage stakeholder relationships and influence outcomes
  • Experience working autonomously and collaboratively to deliver advice and recommendations
  • Technical knowledge of aquaculture operations and compliance obligations
  • Ability to adapt and remain calm in dynamic environments, including offshore conditions
  • High attention to detail and proactive approach to continuous improvement
  • Experience with ROV operation or willingness to learn
  • Comfortable working in marine environments, including on workboats in variable weather conditions
  • Coxswain’s licence or ability to obtain
