If you’re passionate about practical environmental management, confident working with regulators, and enjoy helping operations teams lift capability, this role will suit you perfectly.
The Role
As Senior Environmental Compliance Officer, you will:
- Lead day‑to‑day environmental compliance across northern hatcheries, PMC (Tas), and our Ingleburn facility (NSW).
- Translate licence and permit requirements into practical controls that teams can follow.
- Support the rollout of centralised compliance systems and tools to improve consistency and oversight.
- Maintain risk registers, track corrective actions, and help sites close issues quickly and effectively.
- Prepare accurate environmental reports and notifications and ensure deadlines are met.
- Deliver site visits, toolbox talks and on‑the‑ground support to build awareness and strengthen environmental ownership.
- Support and co‑deliver internal audits, helping operations teams prepare, respond and continuously improve.
- Build strong, positive relationships with regulators, councils and utilities.
- Represent environmental findings and insights at internal meetings and committees.
Key Responsibilities
- Keep environmental registers, dashboards and documentation up to date.
- Identify risks, gaps and improvement opportunities across sites.
- Provide practical advice on environmental controls, pollution mitigation and safe operating practices.
- Coach and support supervisors and frontline staff to build capability and confidence.
- Ensure alignment to Huon and JBS’ environmental, health and safety standards.
About You
You’re a proactive environmental professional with:
- Qualifications in Environmental Science, Engineering, Aquaculture or a similar field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years’ experience in environmental compliance, ideally in aquaculture, food processing or manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of land‑based environmental requirements (water/effluent, waste, hazardous substances, noise/air, reporting).
- Experience conducting audits, closing actions and improving operational controls.
- Confidence working with regulators and engaging frontline teams.
- Excellent communication, problem‑solving and relationship‑building skills.
- A willingness to travel to northern sites and NSW as needed.
