Fish Stock Assistant

Huon is excited to launch a brand-new Fish Stock Assistant role supporting our breeding, broodstock, freshwater, marine, and processing operations across Tasmania. This is a unique opportunity to step into a varied, hands-on position where no two weeks look the same, and where you’ll work with multiple teams across a wide range of facilities.

About the role

Working a 4 days on, 3 days off roster, you’ll travel frequently across our Tasmanian sites, supporting a diverse mix of operational tasks. Overnight shifts may be required at times.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting vaccination processes, including hand and machine vaccination and basic equipment checks
  • Assisting with spawning activities such as sorting, fertilisation, and milt processing
  • Participating in breeding program tasks including grading, tagging, sampling, and measuring fish
  • Supporting smolt transfers, incubation hygiene, and alarm cover (once trained)
  • Assisting marine operations with gill checks, sampling, trial work, and harvest support

About you

You’re a flexible, proactive team player who enjoys variety, learning, and working with different people and environments. You bring:

  • Aquaculture experience or relevant study (hatchery experience ideal but not essential)
  • Strong attention to detail, organisation, and adherence to biosecurity and safety protocols
  • A current unrestricted driver’s licence and willingness to travel frequently between sites
  • The ability to work autonomously and collaborate well within small teams
  • A genuine interest in learning, developing, and growing with the role
