The Role
Reporting to the General Manager Corporate Governance, you’ll lead a team of six compliance professionals and play a key role in ensuring Huon’s operations align with all environmental regulations, third-party certifications, and internal standards. You’ll work closely with regulators, internal teams, and industry bodies to maintain Huon’s reputation as a responsible and compliant operator. Your key responsibilities include:
- Leading and mentoring a high-performing team, fostering a culture of compliance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Ensuring full compliance with environmental regulations, licences, and third-party certification schemes.
- Managing internal audits, external audits, and regulatory reporting to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and transparency.
- Overseeing environmental approval processes for new and existing projects, ensuring alignment with legislative requirements.
- Providing strategic, commercially aware compliance advice to internal stakeholders.
- Representing Huon in regulatory and industry forums, advocating for practical and effective compliance outcomes.
- Identifying and implementing opportunities to strengthen compliance systems and embed best practices across the business.
About You
What You’ll Bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Environment, Science, Business, or a related field
- Proven experience in environmental compliance within aquaculture, agriculture, or another highly regulated sector.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team in a compliance-focused environment.
- Strong understanding of environmental legislation, licensing, and certification schemes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including with regulators and auditors.
- A pragmatic, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to interpret data and drive informed decisions.
