Lead innovation, performance, and sustainability in freshwater aquaculture.
Are you a strategic leader with deep expertise in Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS)? Do you have a passion for driving operational excellence while ensuring fish welfare, environmental stewardship, and team development? We’re looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Head of Freshwater Operations to lead our freshwater aquaculture function across multiple sites.
About the Role
Reporting to the General Manager of aquaculture, you will lead our freshwater sites and teams to deliver sustainable performance in line with Huon’s values and strategic priorities. You will champion a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement, while ensuring fish health, quality, and biosecurity remain at the core of our operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive freshwater site performance with a focus on fish health, welfare, and growth.
- Set and manage operational budgets, KPI’s, and capital allocation.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to proactively identify and address challenges.
- Provide technical leadership on freshwater strategy and systems performance.
- Develop site managers and succession plans through coaching, mentoring and leadership.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, regulatory, and safety obligations.
- Represent Huon in industry forums, committees, and regulatory engagement.
- Prepare high quality reporting for executive leadership.
What you will bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Science, Aquaculture, and Business are desirable, or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience and technical expertise in Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS).
- Demonstrated leadership in complex, large scale operations.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and problem-solving capabilities.
- Commercial mindset with a hands-on pragmatic approach.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and reporting systems.
- A proactive attitude toward innovation, safety, and professional growth.
